The Judge (to the prisoner without Counsel): "Mr. Smugg, who is present, will defend you; or there is Mr. Andrews outside in the corridor. Both of these gentlemen are willing to act as your Counsel. Which would you prefer?"
Prisoner: "Thank'ee, m'lud, I reckon I'll chanst Mr. Andrews."
